6/1/14 Proverbs 8:18 Obtaining Riches and Honor

Proverbs 8:18 (NAS)
Riches and honor are with me, Enduring wealth and righteousness.

Proverbs 8:18 (NIV)
With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity.

Part of the American Dream is that anyone can become rich if he or she does enough hard work to obtain it. The desire to be wealthy drives many people; nothing else matters to them.  However, they have not learned the secret of how to get true wealth, which you have learned.

You have decided to have a relationship with the Lord God.  Through that relationship, you receive wisdom, which is the source of the wealth and riches that you desire.  Wisdom from God helps you to grow and to accumulate everything that you need.

Not only does your relationship with the Lord provide riches, but it also causes you to be honored.  You are seen as a weighty person, as you abound with more and more of this world’s goods. You become great and noble.

Your wealth is durable and valued, as an antique is valued for its age and unique quality.  As you grow older, your wealth will not flee, but you will always have enough and more than enough.  The Lord will always give you the ability, the power, the might, and the strength to maintain your substance.

Even more important than having enduring prosperity is to have enduring righteousness. Wisdom allowed you to seek righteousness. Now you have been made right with God and cleansed of your sin through the blood of Jesus Christ.  This justification will endure forever and you will always have right standing with God, as you trust in the finished work of the cross.

Therefore, continue to thank God for your enduring riches and honor that you gained through His wisdom. Praise Him for your righteousness that is everlasting.
