10/31/13 2 Corinthians 7:10 Your Godly Sorrow Produces Repentance

2 Corinthians 7:10 (NAS)

For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

             2 Corinthians 7:10 (NIVUS)

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

If you have a healthy conscience, you should feel remorse if you do something wrong, immoral, or unethical. It is natural for you to experience sadness, heaviness, and grief. If you are a child of God, this sorrow occurs because you know you were not acting in a godly way and not displaying His characteristics.

This godly sorrow accomplishes much in God's children. It causes you to want to reform and to reverse what you did.  Since you cannot change the past, you go to Adonai to repent. You then begin to think differently; you reconsider your actions, so that in the future you will not commit these ungodly deeds.  In your repentance you find rescue and safety. Once again the Lord Yeshua extends His salvation and deliverance and you are brought back into proper alignment with Him. He will not change His mind, for He does not regret His decision concerning you.

The people who live according to the world's system do not have this advantage. They may feel the same kind of sorrow and heaviness, but they have no place to go for relief.  Their sorrow only produces death, for they do not have access to the power of Almighty God to change them.

Therefore, you should thank God for the sorrow you feel, for it is always an agent to make you better.
