5/29/13 1 Samuel 2:4 The Feeble Gird on Strength

1 Samuel 2:4 "The bows of the mighty are shattered, But the feeble gird on strength.

In this day and age, men do not usually fight with bows and arrows, but in Biblical times, these were common weapons. Natural men, then and now, tend to rely on their own strength and their own weaponry. Whoever has bigger guns thinks he is mightier than his enemies. However, the Lord God is not impressed with mankind's weapons.

The archers in ancient times were hard, severe, fierce and harsh. They, lying hidden, would lay a snare for the enemy. They would bait and lure their foes into their trap, even as your enemy Satan does today. Marching against the opposing armies, these bowmen would show how strong, mighty, and brave they were. In their proud strength and power, they would prevail. Even so, your enemy proudly thinks he will prevail against you. However, you need not fear or be terrified, for the Lord God will shatter the bows and weapons of the enemy. He, not you, will be scared and dismayed. His weapons against you will be broken and abolished.

You may feel feeble and weak and go about stumbling, staggering, and tottering. You may think you have been injured or ruined. Perhaps your dreams have miscarried and you have been left childless and bereaved. Your life seems barren. However, do not despair. Clothe and encompass yourself with strength. Jehovah, the ever living One, will give you the might, ability, and force that you need to prevail against your enemy. Instead of just bows and arrows, you will have the army of the Lord surrounding and protecting you. Then your enemy will writhe and twist in pain and anguish, but you will wait longingly for the Lord your God, who clasps and holds you close.
