5/28/13 Psalms 16:2 Only God is Good!

Psalms 16:2 I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; I have no good besides You."

Sometimes we can have exalted opinions of ourselves. We believe the world revolves around us and we are the best thing that ever happened to those we know. However, this exalted opinion is born out of our sinful, fallen flesh. If we are honest with ourselves, we know that we are believing and giving in to a lie.

In Psalms 16:2, the psalmist expresses the correct opinion that each of us should have. He has already thought in his heart and then he speaks and utters it out of his mouth. He is not afraid to boast of the truth before his Lord, Jehovah, the One who has always existed. It is important to speak the truth to the Lord of the whole earth.

The psalmist realizes that he has nothing to boast about himself. In fact, he knows that he is growing older and is becoming used up and worn out. In himself he has nothing that is good, pleasant, or agreeable. In fact the original Hebrew word "Towb Adoniyahuw" means " my Lord is good". Anything that is good, pleasing, joyful, beneficial, favorable, or right comes from Yahweh.

As we put our trust in Him, He helps us do good and act rightly. Without Him, we are just old worn out garments that are ready to be thrown away. However, our God makes all things new and good. That is the most exalted opinion that we could ever hold.
