5/ 27/13 Psalms 28.7 The Lord --Your Strength and Shield

Psalms 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him.

Before a soldier is sent to fight in a battle, he is taught how to confront the enemy with his weapons and he is also taught how to take cover. A soldier who seeks cover is not a coward, but he is preserving his life, so that he can continue to fight until the war is won. Likewise, as a soldier in the Lord's army, you are learning to fight, but you are also learning when to take refuge.

One of the first things a soldier learns is from whom to take orders. Your Commander-in Chief is Jehovah, the Lord of lords. You recognize Adonai as your superior and you follow His commands. In doing so, you become more like Him.

Like a soldier, you train to become stronger; however, unlike a natural soldier, you must learn not to rely on your own strength.Yahweh is your strength, might and power. He is your shield and your buckler, the One in whom you take cover. He surrounds you with His strrength and defends you against the enemy. The Lord Most High is your rearguard and He encloses you as if you were in a ravine. No enemy can come close to you to do you harm.

Therefore, take heart and be encouraged. Be at ease, bake your bread, and eat your cakes, for you are safe and secure. You can be confident and bold, putting your trust in the Lord your God. He is your help and support. He has established your heart, your mind, and your understanding. Almighty God is transforming you and fashioning you into what He wants. Your course is determined and fixed in and by Him.

Now you can exult and rejoice in triumph. You can sing songs and make music. As you travel and journey through life, you can give thanks, praising and lauding the Lord Jehovah, who is your strength and shield.
